What Can Chiropractic Care Do for Kids?

Chiropractic care is the science of removing interference from the nervous system help your body and nervous systems operate at its best. The nervous system controls everything in your body from breathing to brainpower constantly sending signals back and forth that allow the body to adapt to its surroundings. Not all adaptations are good. If you break a bone and end up in a cast the body adapts and heals the bone. The bone must remain still to heal which causes the surrounding muscles to become weakened. The spine houses the nervous system and is designed to protect your spinal cord and allow your body to send important signals, to help you move and adapt and live in the world. If there is a block in the chain, the signals do not get to where they need to go, which causes your body to adapt in a negative way, taking more effort to get a simple signal through your nervous system causing delays, malfunction and a lack of wellbeing. Chiropractic helps remove the “blocks” in the chain of the nervous system.

The first year of life is when the spinal curvatures develop, it is the greatest period of spinal elongation of the entire life span, and the most brain growth occurs in during this time. When a baby is born proprioception (how we physically perceive the world) is crucial to successfully interpreting the world and developing mobility patterns, brain patterns, learning patterns and survival. When birth occurs naturally with no complications the pressure from the birthing processes allows the baby to take their first breath instantly using more proprioception to learn, live and interpret their new environment. While ideally this pressure helps to create the first breath, it can also create blocks in the spinal system making it more difficult for a new baby to thrive in the world. What may look like a sweet head tilt when sleeping can be a symptom of nervous system interference than can hamper balanced healthy growth and development. This can express in many ways including discomfort, restlessness, difficulty latching or feeding, colic and failure to thrive.

Parents want what is best for their children, they want to protect them, give them their best start, help them sleep, watch them grow into healthy, beautiful, smart children and strong and empowered adults. Chiropractic care can make the process, healthier, easier, and allow babies and children greater proprioception and adaptability naturally. This gives healthy children a better chance of staying healthy, and giving children that struggle a chance to thrive in their environment. Chiropractic care for babies and children is a safe, gentle and effective way to remove blocks in the nervous system, improve signals in the body and to help children thrive in their environments.

According to a study from 2007 in the Journal Pediatrics it is estimated that there are 30 million pediatric visits a year. While the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that chiropractic care is the most common form of complimentary care for children in the United States.

Whether your child is healthy and you are bringing them to a chiropractor for a check-up, or you have a child that is struggling to thrive with anything from colic to a chronic condition or learning disability, chiropractic care can be a wonderful source of knowledge, health benefits, and empowering wellness for your child and your family.
